MINUTES OF THE JULY 4th 1895 MEETING OF INSTOW PARISH COUNCIL


July 4th 1895

A meeting of the Parish Council was held in the vestry room at seven o'clock p m. to consider form of application to the District Council for permission to place seats on road and other business.

Present. Messrs. Lock, Robertson, J Easterbrook, H.A. Easterbrook. Bellew

Moved by Mr Robertson seconded by Mr J Easterbrook that the following application be sent to the Rural District Council for permission to place 3 seats by the side of the highway on the parade.

"Instow, North Devon
July 4th, 1895

Dear Sir

I am directed by the Parish Council of Instow to make application to the District Council for permission to place three seats by the side of the highway on the parade.

The Parish Council have applied to the owners of the gardens adjoining and they have raised no objection to the seats being placed outside their premises.

I have already explained to the County Surveyor where the seats are proposed to be placed and he informed me that he saw no objection to the proposal.

Moved by Mr W.A. Easterbrook seconded by Mr W.F. Pidler and carried unanimously that the following letter be sent to the Rector of the Parish by the clerk.

"Instow
July 4th 1895
Rev Sir

The Parish Council have instructed me to inform you that they have taken a legal opinion as to the ownership of the vestry room and they are advised that the building is Parish property.

This being so I am directed to ask you for the key of the building.

I am further directed to inform you that the Council will be quite willing to permit the building to be used for Ecclesiastical purposes at all times when it is not required for parochial purposes.

I shall be pleased to attend at the Rectory to receive the key at any time that it may be convenient for you to hand it over to me, awaiting your reply

The Clerk having explained that it was necessary to have a resolution to appoint a collector of the special sanitary rate it was resolved that his salary for the various duties be as follows.

For reading and collecting the poor rate £10
For making and collecting the special sanitary rate £5
For acting as clerk to Parish Council £6
