MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 2nd 1897 MEETING OF INSTOW PARISH COUNCIL


December 2nd 1897

In pursuance of the following notice "Notice is given that a Parish Meeting
will be held on Thursday December 2nd at 8pm at the Vestry Room opposite the
church to discuss the supply of water to Instow. This meeting is called in
accordance with the Act of Parliament by the ratepayers whose signatures are
appended.

A parish Meeting was held present Revs. S.C. Haines, E.D. Pigott, J.B.
White, Mrs Gregory, Miss Whyte, Mrs Chichester, Mr W.H. Lock, chairman of
Parish Council, Major Winter, Col Molloy, Messrs D. Skinner, Clevedon,
Nation, W.A. Easterbrook, W.H.F. Pidler, J. Easterbrook, T. lock, C.
Molland, E.O. Nicholls, H. Turner, W. Parkhouse, A. Pidler, J. Patch,
Topham, Gorton District Councillor, C. Lock.

Mr W.H. Lock presided & read the minutes of the previous Parish Meeting
which were adopted on the motion of the Rev S.C. Haines.

The steps which had been taken since the last Parish Meeting having been
explained a long discussion ensued amid considerable interruptions. The Rev
S.C. Haines then moved the following resolution, "That this Meeting of
ratepayers repudiate the action of the District Council in spending money to
provide water for certain houses in Lane End." This was seconded by Mr T.
Lock and on being put to the Meeting was lost 13 voting for it and 19
against.

Finally a resolution was moved by the Rev J.B. White, "That Mr Gorton be
asked to approach Mr Christie requesting him to form a reservoir to supply
Instow with Water." This was seconded by the Rev E.C. Pigott and carried
unanimously.

On the motion of the Rev J.B. white seconded by Mr Patch a vote of thanks
was accorded the chairman for presiding. This concluded the business of the
meeting.
