MINUTES OF THE MARCH 18th 1897 MEETING OF INSTOW PARISH COUNCIL


March 18th 1897

Pursuant to notice in accordance with instructions received from the Local Government Board a Parish Meeting was held in the vestry room at 7 o'clock p.m. for the purpose of electing Parish Councillors for the year commencing 15th 1897.

The chairman of the Parish Council took the Chair and after stating the object of the meeting asked that nominations be handed in.

Upon a nomination for the Chairman being handed in he vacated the Chair and Mr E.H. Jessop was thereupon elected chairman.

Having decided that the 10 nominations which were handed in were valid the Chairman informed the meeting that since the nominations were in excess of the number of Councillors it was necessary to ask the meeting to elect by show of hands.

On the names being submitted in alphabetical order the Chairman decided that the voting for the respective candidates was as follows:-

Easterbrook W.A. 32 votes Bellew W. 30 votes Pidler A. 27 votes
Nation W. 32 Joslin Jas 30 Winter Major 24
Pidler W.H.F. 32 Lock W.H. 30 Molland Chas 16
Easterbrook J. 31

No poll being demanded the first nine were declared elected.

A unanimous vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the proceedings.
